Anal Fissure is a tear in the anal canal. It usually occurs when hard stool passes forcefully through anus. But it can occur in diarrhea also.
Anal Fissure is two types – Acute and Chronic
Acute anal Fissure occurs due to sudden tear in anal canal. When acute anal fissure remains for long time, then it becomes Chronic.
Feature:- In acute anal fissure – There is severe pain during and after defecation, bright red blood seen in stool also in tissue paper but amount of bleeding is slight. Patient is afraid of defecation due to fear of pain. So patient become more constipated. In Chronic anal Fissure The history will be for long time, pain in not so severe but burning sensation and itching is more. Stool pass become more difficult as anal canal becomes narrow. Stool is usually head but may be soft even loose especially in elderly. There is a small swelling in anus.
Treatment:- In initial stage – Treatment is stool softeners. Some local medicine like local anesthetic, steroid and dilators.
Operation :- In chronic stage usually surgery is needed. This is a small surgery where patient can go home on the day of surgery or one day after.
